Magic Words Therapy is an independent speech and language therapy service for children and adults that was set up in 2009
We at Magic Words Therapy know that being able to communicate effectively is absolutely vital for a child’s success in life and for their psychological wellbeing in both childhood and adulthood. With 1 in 10 children having a speech, language or communication difficulty, there is now more than ever a huge need for an effective speech and language therapy service.
To practice as a speech and language therapist (SLT) an undergraduate / postgraduate degree is required along with registration with the HCPC (Health Care Professionals Council) and the RCSLT (Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists).
Speech and language therapists work with people with a wide range of communication difficulties including unclear speech, stammers, autism, selective mutism, developmental language disorder, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.
Magic Words Therapy work with schools, individual families, adults and case management firms. We have clinics in Milton Keynes, St Albans and Central London (Euston) and we are currently opening up clinics in both Cambridge and Northampton.
With new clients we assess current skills and needs over a wide range of communication areas. We are experts at designing treatment plans to suit each individual client according to SMART goals based on the assessment results. We work with the client until their difficulties are resolved or resolved as much as is possible for that person.
In some cases, the client will never be able to communicate verbally, e.g. people with severe autism or those who have had major strokes. We help them to use other means to communicate such as speech generating devices (as used by the late Stephen Hawking), otherwise known as AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).
The therapy approaches we use, along with the clients we treat, are the stars of the show. We try to use the best in modern tech such as iPad therapy apps as well as more traditional toys and games and multisensory approaches, using plenty of bubbles, coloured slime and glitter. We use storytelling, drama and even Lego to capture children’s imagination and engage them in the therapy process so that we can achieve the best possible outcomes.
